Licensing Information
Contractors working in the jurisdiction of SOCOBD are required to be licensed and/or registered with this department. There are exceptions to this
including painters, flooring, landscaping (installing or maintaining plants and lawns only), arborists, trim carpentry, and tile work. For a more complete list of when a license

How to get a License or Registration
The basic steps to get a license or registration vary depending on the type of license.
All licensing starts with submitting a complete application.

General Contractors (A,B and C), Mechanical 'A' & Roofing licenses require a passing ICC standardized test.
If you need to take an exam, please use the following exam IDs up to the newest code version: Building 'A' - F11, Building 'B' - F12, Building 'C' - F13, Roofing - F14, Mechanical 'A' - F29.
Important Notice:
These applications must be filled out entirely in order to be accepted.
An incomplete application may needlessly delay your license.
Beginning March 1st 2026, A re-submittal fee of $35 will be assessed for each submission after the 2nd revision.
