Southern Colorado Building Department (SOCOBD) was created by an intergovernmental agreement between the City of Pueblo & the Town of Boone. The purpose was to create a single entity that would serve the City and Boone., Colorado City SOCOBD does not have jurisdiction in unincorporated areas of Pueblo County. The purpose of the department is stated in the mission statement: Dedicated to promoting and preserving building safety through professional and courteous service.
SOCOBD's primary objective is to ensure that construction and renovation of buildings within the jurisdiction meet the required codes. The construction (building) codes are uniform throughout
our service. The department is also responsible for responding to emergencies which may create unsafe conditions in structures.
SOCOBD is not responsible for code enforcement regarding zoning, trash, vehicles or other issues, though we work closely with the code enforcement agencies if assistance is requested.
Department oversight is done through a commission comprised of citizens, contractors, and a City Council Member; appointed by Pueblo & Boone. To see the current commission, click here.
